Lavenderclaw turned to Emberpaw suddenly and sobbed in his soft fur. She shook a little but after a few moments she contained herself and looked away. Ashamed. She shouldn't be acting like this. But Shadowchaser's absense hurt her worse then any battle wound.

He rested his tail on her shoulder and smiled gently at her. "It's okay, Lavenderclaw. You'll see him again. I doubt Snowstar would mind if you went to visit him. After all, she would never keep mates apart."

Lavenderclaw nodded and hiccuped from her tears. She stood and turned away though from the border. " I have kits to get to." she meowed quietly and waited for Emberpaw to walk with her.

Emberpaw nodded and padded by her side. He wished he could help her more, but there was nothing he could do.

Songpaw silently sat by the apprentice's den, wishing she knew where Spikepaw was. He was her closest friend, but she hadn't seen him in what seemed like ages.

Lavenderclaw padded slowly into camp and headed to the nursery. Just as she did, Spikepaw rounded the corner and padded over to the apprentices den, a morbid look on his face. His tail was fluffed up and his eyes were screwed into a look of disgust and fear glimmered behind their whites.

Songpaw padded after Spikepaw, her head tilted curiously. "Spikepaw, what's wrong?"

Spikepaw reacted with a shiver at her voice. But he shook his head. "I uh..." he tried to think quickly. "I saw a fox roaming around while I tried to hunt. It chased me but I lost it. I hope I haven't led a good scent straight to the camp for him..." he sighed, sounding extremely dejected.

Songpaw stared at him silently for a moment. "If you saw a fox, you should tell Snowstar," she finally said. But she was still staring at him, looking as if she didn't quite believe his story.

Spikepaw nodded and looked away. "I uh...I will after I get some rest. My paws are tired after running so hard." he walked past her, casting a glance with distraught eyes before he settled in his nest.

Songpaw sighed softly and padded away, hurt because she was pretty sure Spikepaw was lying to her.

Spikepaw closed his eyes. Feeling torn about Songpaw. Part of him wanted to tell her about what happened to him in the forest, while the other half hissed for him to shut up. He fell asleep with her puzzeled face imprinted in his mind.

Songpaw sighed softly and curled up under an overhanging rock, gazing out across the clan without really seeing anything.

Iceykit fluffed up her fur. "Why is it so cold?" she whined. Autumkit sighed. "Leafbare should be almost over."

Snowstar curled up in a ball outside the nursery, watching her daughter's gloomy expression and wondering what had made her upset. She knew Songpaw would want time alone, though, so she refrained from going to comfort her. She glanced at the kits and wondered when her kits would be old enough to come home. She missed them dearly.
